This is the TRUE story of the:
Sweet Innocent Numbers
123-789-456
BECAUSE
Sudoku Is Numbers
by Laurie E. Bendickson

One day, I decided that one way or another, I was going to figure out this crazy game of Sudoku. I figured there just had to be some sound logic at play here somewhere and I was determined I was going to unravel the big mystery. I almost felt like I had a small bit of "Indiana Jones" thing going on for awhile. Oh, of course, I didn't have the hat or whip, but I didn't think they were really necessary, anyways.

As I was trying to figure out how to play the game, it said in the instructions that you need to have all nine numbers in a row. Then, each box set had to have all nine numbers and also in each column. I wasn't quite sure what that all meant, because the only way that I've ever seen the numbers was all mixed up, like this:

2 6 3
5 1 4
7 9 8

Then, I decided what I should do is just write it out in a straight line like this, and just do one line at a time. Then, things started making more sense:

1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9

Then, I figured out how to do the next line, it would have to be like this:

1 2 3
7 8 9
4 5 6
1 2 3
7 8 9
4 5 6

Then, to complete the next three rows of boxes, the number one would have to go in the last group like this:

1 2 3
7 8 9
4 5 6
4 5 6
1 2 3
7 8 9
7 8 9
4 5 6
1 2 3

After that, the number one would have to start in the next rows and columns like this graph shows. You can put the numbers in for practice, if you would like to:

1 2 3
7 8 9
4 5 6
4 5 6
1 2 3
7 8 9
7 8 9
4 5 6
1 2 3

Notice how the numbers never appear in the same row or column?  Now you can see what I saw in the most basic Sudoku puzzle and how the logic of the game starts becoming more clear as to how to play the game and solve the puzzles. In the puzzles that I have made, you will see that I have made seven different levels. Each puzzle set is made in this manner:

  • Level 1...Has all 81 numbers on the board
  • Level 2...Has 72 numbers and is missing 9 numbers
  • Level 3...Has 63 numbers and is missing 18 numbers
  • Level 4...Has 54 numbers and is missing 27 numbers
  • Level 5...Has 45 numbers and is missing 36 numbers
  • Level 6...Has 36 numbers and is missing 45 numbers
  • Level 7...Has 27 numbers and is missing 54 numbers

So now I'll tell you how the alphabet got attached to the numbers. Well, once I finally figured out Sudoku, it got me thinking about the alphabet and...well, one thing led to another and the next thing I knew, I ended up with this creation on this page. On it, you will see it has all the numbers from 001 to 999 and you will be able to use them to help you translate any Sudoku puzzle and see what words are hiding in that puzzle. However, you need to be aware, that not all puzzles are nice. Some puzzles out in the world can get pretty nasty and sometimes even spooky. It's true! You could find a puzzle with a ghost in it, especially on Halloween. But don't you worry, I am very picky about the puzzles that I add to my web pages. I like to make puzzles that are family friendly, ALL of my creations always follow the Clean Thinking Rules. Only in the spirit of Halloween do I make any puzzles that are simi spooky, and even then, they are still family friendly.

Now, we get back to the 123-789-456 part. Just use the 001-999 drop-down code box below and you will see why I call them "Sweet Innocent Numbers", but don't worry about the answer you'll find. Just remember, you are just starting to learn how to play the game. I was pretty shocked at the answer I found, at first, but trust me when I say:

Sudoku Is Numbers

Now you need to take note, that most of time they are innocent. Well...some puzzles could actually be "Guilty". After all the word "Guilty" is a Scraboku word and the very last puzzle is Guilty. Although, I don't believe it's grounds for any Law Officials to step in and take any action. Thank goodness! I am sure you will have fun playing that game. Now let's have some with this one and you can start to see the mystery start to unravel.  Just remember...don't be too shocked at the answer!

There are six combinations of the letters "SIN" and at least this many list of words in the English language:

After I got done looking at some of the words and thinking about all the combinations, it really helped me calm down. I realized that my favorite word was among them and it is something that I enjoyed hearing. I have also been told, that I am also pleasing to the ear, and that makes me very happy. So, now it is your turn to solve this puzzle and figure out what is one of my favorite words:

I love to listen to a good _ _ _ _ _ _.

In this case, I'd say that's an okay crime to commit. No laws broken here! I do have a confession to make...This has got be the silliest puzzle I have ever made! Please share it with all of your friends and family. I'm sure they will get quite a chuckle out of it.
